Textbook: McDougal Littell; Calculus of a Single Variable; $70.92

Required Materials: Textbook, paper, sharpened pencils, three- ring binder with dividers.

Practice Exam: A mandatory practice AP Calculus AB exam will be given on Saturday, April 19, 2008
from 7:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. The purpose of this testing allows each Calculus student to experience the actual testing conditions of the AP Calculus exam. Please plan your spring schedule now so that you will be
able to attend this testing session. (This will count as the final exam for SPRING semester.)

The A.P. Calculus AB exam date is Wednesday, May 7, 2008.

Grading Policy
Fulton County grading scale. Grades will be determined as follows:
90%- 100% = A Tests/Projects 60%
80%- 89% = B Quizzes 20%
70%- 79% = C Homework/classwork 5%
Below 70%= F Final Exam 15%

Tests: There will be at least one test per chapter. Each test will be announced in advance. Students who are absent after a major test is announced will be expected to take the test with the class on the scheduled day. Students should take notebooks home each day in case they need to study.

Quizzes: Quizzes may be announced or unannounced and may be made-up according to the
guidelines specified under tests.

Homework: Homework will be assigned daily and may be checked or collected for credit at any time. Homework quizzes will also be given. Homework quizzes may contain questions from homework, class notes, and/or examples. No late homework will be accepted. No passes will be issued to lockers to get homework.

To receive full credit for homework:
__Your notebook must be a 3-ring binder.
__Write the original problem with directions, draw all pictures, show all work, and correct mistakes as we go
over problems in class. Word problems may be paraphrased.
__Work must be written in pencil on a new sheet of notebook paper for each day’s work.
__Label each page of your homework with the page and problem number so that you can easily find
them.
__Work must be legible and properly identified with name, class period, page number, and date.

Final Exam: The final exam will count as 15% of the semester average and will be cumulative.

Make-up tests/quizzes: All make-up tests are the responsibility of the student. Make-up exams will be given by appointment before or after school. All make-up tests/quizzes must be taken within a week of the original test date. All make-up tests /quizzes that are not completed within this time frame will receive a grade of zero and will not be eligible for recovery.

Extra Help
Help is available at 8:00 a.m. in the mornings in room G-101 by appointment. Sign up for extra help at least the day before you plan to come in. Although I am available for extra help most mornings, students desiring extra help must notify me in advance so that I will be in the room at the arranged time.

Classroom Expectations:
Attend all classes! Bring materials EVERY day! Be on time!
Be in your desk when the tardy bell rings with materials ready or you will be marked tardy.
Respect yourself, respect others, and respect the classroom environment.
Follow all school rules as described in the Student Handbook.

Calculators:. If you purchase a graphing calculator, a TI-84+ is recommended. TI-83+ calculators may also be used. Graphing calculators are powerful mathematical tools. Through their use students can visualize problems more quickly, discover mathematical properties, and validate their work done with pencil and paper. They must be used appropriately. Graphing calculators are not substitutes for students learning mathematical concepts and processes. They are to be used to enhance student learning. Playing games on the calculator is not permitted during class time.
There is a set of scientific and graphing calculators for students to use in the classroom. In order to ensure security, students that opt to use their own calculator may have the memory cleared before and after a test is given in class.

RECOVERY POLICY—FCBOE (Fulton County Board of Education)
High School Version (quoted directly from FCBOE policy) Provision for Improving Grades
1. Opportunities designed to allow students to recover from a low
or failing cumulative grade will be allowed when all work required
to date has been completed and the student has demonstrated
a legitimate effort to meet all course requirements including
attendance. Students should contact the teacher concerning recovery
opportunities. Teachers are expected to establish a reasonable
time period for recovery work to be completed during the
semester. All recovery work must be directly related to course
objectives and must be completed ten school days prior to the
end of the semester.
2. Teachers will determine when and how students with extenuating
circumstances may improve their grades.



Parent Connect: Parent Connect is a software program that links parents and teachers by allowing parents to access their student’s grades, attendance, assignments and discipline via the Internet. Student grades will be updated in Integrade at least every two weeks. Quizzes and tests will be entered into Integrade to show when they will be given once they are announced to the students. All parents are encouraged to register for this service.

Curriculum Night (Open House) will be held on Monday, August 27 and will begin at
7:00 p.m.
